Finance Manager

Overview

Financial Manager / Controller — We are seeking a highly capable and hands-on Financial Manager / Controller to manage and oversee the financial operations for a growing construction business that has over 20 years of experience in the industry. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial management across new builds, contractor payments, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have some construction industry experience, excellent communication skills, and a proactive, can-do attitude.

This is a full-time, on-site role working closely with our quantity surveying team, project managers, leadership, external accountants (Deloitte), and clients when needed.

• Oversee all financial functions of the business, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Work closely with Deloitte to support GST filings, annual accounts, taxation obligations, and audit preparation.
• Monitor cash flow, ensuring adequate funding for ongoing projects and operational needs.

• Manage invoicing for all new builds, ensuring timely and accurate billing based on project milestones and contractual agreements.
• Process payments for contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
• Collaborate daily with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) team to ensure budgets, costings, and financial forecasts align with project realities.

• Lead financial forecasting, annual budgeting, and regular variance analysis.
• Provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic planning and decision-making.
• Track project profitability and ensure cost efficiencies are maintained.

• Manage company insurance policies, ensuring coverage is appropriate, up to date, and meets project and contractual requirements.
• Ensure all financial practices comply with relevant legislation and industry standards.
• Maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures.

• Partner with internal teams (QS, project managers, operations) to support financial clarity and project success.
• Communicate financial information clearly to non-financial team members.
• Meet with clients as needed.
• Contribute to a strong, positive team culture with a collaborative approach.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (CA or CPA preferred but not required).
• 5+ years of experience in financial management, ideally within the construction industry.
• Strong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, and project-based accounting.
• Experience working with external accountants and auditors.
• Proficiency with accounting software Xero and strong spreadsheet skills with Excel.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
