Tobacco Compliance Officer

Join the City of Hamilton as a Tobacco Compliance Officer focused on enforcing the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and local by-laws. This role involves education, inspections, and collaboration with community agencies.

As a Tobacco Compliance Officer, you will work under the Tobacco Control Manager, engaging directly with businesses and community members to ensure compliance with tobacco regulations. Your duties will include conducting inspections, gathering evidence, and responding to public inquiries about tobacco laws. This position aims to promote a smoke-free environment through proactive engagement and enforcement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough inspections of public places for compliance

• Gather evidence for legal proceedings as needed

• Issue tickets and legal notices for violations

• Document inspections in the Tobacco Inspection System

• Collaborate with various health and enforcement agencies

Requirements:

• Diploma in Law Enforcement or equivalent experience

• Knowledge of municipal and provincial tobacco laws

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

• Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure

• Experience with Microsoft Office and database management
