Job Summary and RequirementsThis posting
This posting will be used to fill 1 full-time term position working 75 hours bi-weekly until March 31, 2028. It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.
This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon .
Who we areThe Health Safety & Emergency Management unit (within Corporate Services) leads the Department of Health and Social Services in 5 key areas:
Risk Management, Business Continuity Planning, Occupational Health & Safety, Health Emergency Management and Emergency Support Services. Health and Social Services has 5 divisions that are supported by this position – Continuing Care, Community & Primary Care, Corporate Services, Social Services, and Innovation Quality and Performance.
Health Emergency Management involves building a resilient health system that can effectively mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the impacts of emergency events.
Reporting to and receiving direction from the Manager, Health Safety and Emergency Management, the Health Emergency Management Planner is responsible for the coordination, development and implementation of emergency management and business continuity plans; the development, planning, organization, facilitation and/or delivery of emergency preparedness education and training programs in emergency management as well as assisting in the review of emergency management plans and support of health and social emergency management programs.
This position will take part in a Duty roster (be on standby) and will be required to be available 24/7 on a rotating basis.

- Post-secondary education in public health, business continuity, emergency management, or a related field.
- Incident Command Syst em Training (ICS 100)
- Experience developing, reviewing, and evaluating emergency management, business continuity, or related operational plans.
- Experience managing projects and coordinating initiatives involving multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
- Experience developing and delivering training, exercises, or capacity-building initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information into clear and practical materials.
- Understanding and application of business continuity principles
- Broad level of understanding of Emergency Management in a health context
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Incident Command System Training I-200 (within 6 months of hire)
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs
- Must be willing to travel within the territory with limited notice
