Apply labour relations expertise across assigned City of Hamilton departments, advising on collective agreements and employment-related statutes. Support managers through complex workplace matters.
Reporting to the Manager, Labour Relations, this officer provides comprehensive labour and staff relations expertise. The work includes policy development, negotiations, grievance resolution, and guidance on investigations, discipline, and union relations. The position also supports legal proceedings and dispute resolution.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and implement fair, proactive labour relations policies
- Advise senior managers on strategies and collective agreement application
- Assist with City of Hamilton collective agreement negotiations
- Develop interest-based grievance resolution procedures and processes
- Prepare cases for mediation, arbitration, and administrative tribunals
- Expertise in labour and staff relations matters
- Knowledge of collective agreements and employment-related statutes
- Ability to interpret Ontario labour and employment legislation
- Ability to assess interests and formulate legal arguments
- Ability to manage employee job actions
