JOB SUMMARY

We have a Full-time, Maintenance Manager position located at our Dundas facility. Reporting to the Plant Manager and directing the maintenance team, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment and infrastructure at the Ontario rendering facility. This role leads the Maintenance department, oversees preventive and predictive maintenance programs, ensures adherence to Ontario's regulatory, environmental and quality compliance requirements, and supports plant production through effective leadership, technical expertise, and cross‑functional collaboration.

This position is an active member of the Plant Operations Committee and contributes plant strategy, capital planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Leadership & People Management
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership, coaching, and direction to the Maintenance Supervisor and all Maintenance team members.
  • Conduct daily plant walkthroughs to identify hazards, equipment concerns, and to follow up on open work orders and employee concerns.
  • Ensure effective communication within the department, including daily meetings, toolbox talks, maintenance updates and shift handover processes.
  • Conduct mid‑year and annual performance reviews, delivering timely coaching, feedback, recognition and corrective action when required.
  • Review and approve time and attendance (Kronos) for all Maintenance employees.
  • Partner with Human Resources on training, development plans, succession planning, and addressing performance issues.
  • Promote and maintain a positive, safety‑focused, collaborative work culture that supports safety, accountability, and continuous improvement, in compliance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and company policies.
Maintenance Operations & Planning
  • Manage Preventive and Predictive Maintenance – ensuring schedules, work orders, and planning tools are effectively executed to ensure optimal equipment reliability and minimal downtime.
  • Develop weekly and monthly maintenance schedules that minimize downtime, support throughput targets, and control overtime, aligned with production requirements.
  • Manage work order backlog, equipment history, and performance tracking through the site’s CMMS (e.g., Maintenance Connect or equivalent).
  • Monitor equipment performance, reliability trends, and work order backlog; implement corrective actions where required.
  • Lead root‑cause analysis (RCA) on recurrent equipment failures and implement long‑term corrective solutions.
  • Ensure maintenance procedures adhere to Ontario regulatory requirements regarding equipment guarding, lockout/tagout, and electrical/mechanical safety.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and ensure key components are available to support uptime.
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained in the CMMS and any other applicable systems.
Budgeting, Capital Planning & Projects
  • Develop and manage the annual Maintenance operating budget, including labour, spare parts, contractors, and utilities.
  • Prepare capital expenditure business cases and proposals.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in leading capital projects; manage project timelines, and ensure safe, compliant execution of capital and improvement projects ensuring compliance with Ontario Building Code, electrical code (Ontario Electrical Safety Code), and ESA requirements.
  • Manage permit‑to‑work processes and oversee contractor work, ensuring compliance with site policies, safety and legislative requirements, and quality expectations.
Health & Safety Leadership
  • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring maintenance work is in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and Reg. 851 – Industrial Establishments.
  • Ensure maintenance activities and team adhere to:
    • Lockout/Tagout requirements
    • Machine guarding standards
    • Confined space entry regulations
    • Working at heights legislation
    • Work permit requirements
  • Lead safety‑related work orders and ensure hazards are promptly reported and corrected.
  • Report and document all first aids, medical aids, and lost‑time injuries in accordance with policy and WSIB reporting requirements.
