The Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine is seeking a Manager, Admissions and Enrollment, Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) who will be responsible for the development and implementation and oversight of all aspects of the admissions process for students admitted to all three campuses (Hamilton, Niagara, Waterloo) and to the MD/PhD Program. The Manager, Admissions and Enrollment, UGME is accountable to the Program Manager, UGME and works closely with the Chair, MD Admissions and other faculty leads.

In a collaborative team environment, which embraces the values of integrity, teamwork, and inclusivity, the Manager, Admissions and Enrollment, UGME will serve as a leader and is accountable for the following:

  • Leads the strategic planning for UGME admissions and presents recommendations to the Program Manager and Associate Dean, with a focus on optimizing the delivery of the admissions program and ensuring adherence to the accreditation standards.
  • Drives – in concert with the admissions team – the implementation of the admissions strategy to ensures alignment with the strategic vision of the Program, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the University.
  • Performs critical analyses of the program’s admissions processes and outcomes as they relate to planning, resourcing, university mission/strategy and agreements with Ontario-wide admissions partners.
  • Initiates, develops, and manages relationships with external partners and community practices to increase admissions participation from faculty, community, medical residents, and students, particularly from those associated with our equity streams.
  • Participates in the creation and development of special applicant streams and sits on committees in several areas within the faculty, within the broader University, external agencies, and Ontario-wide partners.
  • Manages and addresses admissions issues and inquiries, including challenging cases that may involve legal matters, for applicants who are not successful, collaborating with appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develops and delivers comprehensive in-person and virtual information sessions, in collaboration with the admissions team and current MD and MD/PhD students, for prospective applicants.
  • Ensures external communications around admissions (including website and social media posts) are accurate, appropriate, and timely working collaboratively with the UGME Communications Coordinator.
  • Development of operational oversight across all areas of admissions for all three campuses ensuring that all applicants (approx. 5800/year) receive a fair and equitable opportunity to be considered for admission.
  • Provides day-to-day leadership and direction to the admissions team, who is responsible for communications with potential applicants, applicants, interviewees and incoming students.
  • Development and operational oversight of multiple admissions streams including the MD/PhD program, the Black Equity Stream (BESt), the Facilitated Indigenous Admissions Process (FIAP), the Disability Consideration Stream, and the Military Medical Training Program (MMTP).
  • Oversight of the agenda and running of the MD Admissions Committee, ensuring recruitment of new members as terms expire and follow up on key take-away items including motions which are escalated to higher committees.
