Job OverviewWe are looking for a Fitter – Welder to join our Stoney Creek team, serving a varied clientele throughout Ontario. The role reports to the Operation Manager and involves assembling and repairing lifting devices for customers across Ontario.
Main Responsibilities- Setting up and operating trade machinery such as band saws, radial drill presses, manual and automatic oxy‑fuel cutting, flux‑cored arc welding and MIG equipment
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams
- Planning the sequence of tasks and deciding how to cut steel in the most cost‑effective manner
- Fabricating and assembling structural steel details by drilling, punching holes, grinding, cutting, tack welding, fastening, bolting, or bending and shaping structural steel into the desired pattern
- Performing job duties with precision
- Following instructions given by the Lead Hand and/or Plant Manager
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly work area
- Interacting with the Lead Hand and all senior‑level employees
- Wearing appropriate safety gear during duties
- Performing other shop duties when required
- Agreeing to go out on service jobs with the service team technicians if required
- 3 to 4 years’ experience in layouts
- Proven proficiency in the preparation and assembly of structural steel/plates according to drawings
- Ability to work with most steels
- Proficient with reading blueprints and shop instructions
- Understanding welding symbols
- Current CWB flat welding ticket an asset
- Strong background in fitting skills on large fabrications requiring tight tolerances
- Strong safety skills working in a heavy industrial environment
- Strong teamwork skills on a manufacturing flow line
