Job Summary

We are looking for a Welder/Fitter to join Central Equipment Sales and Service, specializing in commercial vehicle and equipment repairs and modification. The role involves performing welding, fabrication, fitting, and repair work on commercial vehicles, trailers, equipment, and related components while ensuring safety, efficiency, and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG, TIG, stick, and flux‑core welding as required.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify steel, aluminum, and other metal components used on commercial vehicles and trailers.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and fabrication specifications.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and fit materials using hand tools, power tools, torches, and fabrication equipment.
  • Repair structural components including frames, cross members, trailer bodies, bumpers, tailgates, ramps, and mounting brackets.
  • Fabricate replacement parts.
  • Ensure all welding and fabrication work meets applicable safety and quality standards.
  • Inspect damaged equipment and determine appropriate repair methods.
  • Perform welding repairs on trucks, trailers, containers, and specialized transportation equipment.
  • Repair corrosion, cracks, impact damage, and structural deficiencies.
  • Install and fit fabricated components, ensuring proper alignment and functionality.
  • Assist mechanics and technicians with repair projects requiring welding or fabrication expertise.
  • Conduct visual inspections of completed welds and fabricated components.
  • Verify measurements, fitment, and structural integrity before equipment is returned to service.
  • Identify and report defects, safety concerns, or additional repairs required.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, fabrication work, and materials used.
  • Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain welding machines, torches, grinders, cutting equipment, and other shop tools.
  • Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and free from hazards.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance requirements to management.
Safety and Compliance
  • Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Comply with applicable workplace safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and hazard reporting initiatives.
  • Promote a safe and productive work environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Welding certification or trade‑related training considered an asset.
  • Minimum 3 years of welding and fabrication experience, preferably within a commercial vehicle, trailer, transportation, heavy equipment, or industrial environment.
  • Experience repairing and fabricating structural steel and aluminum components.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong understanding of welding techniques, metal properties, and fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of commercial vehicle and trailer construction.
  • Proficient in the use of welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication equipment.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, heat, and varying temperatures.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
