Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular ICU
Position Summary
Located in the Hamiltons downtown core, the Hamilton General Hospital (HGH) is home to the Hamilton Center for Vascular Health (HCVH). The ICU West is a 16‑bed, level 3 tertiary unit that performs the highest volume of cardiovascular surgical procedures in the province. As a registered nurse on this team, you will coordinate and evaluate patient care, provide nursing care according to the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and Standards of Practice for Critical Care Nurses in Ontario, and manage highly complex patients using modalities such as ECMO, Impella, IABP, and CRRT.
In addition, the ICU supports the Critical Care Response Team for the HGH site, offering dedicated critical‑care nurses as part of a multidisciplinary team for outside‑ICU support and consultation. The unit operates with a patient‑centered, multidisciplinary team approach that emphasizes collaboration, patient and family engagement, and the use of innovative technology.
ScheduleWork hours are rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is for a job share.
Qualifications- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Recent (within 2 years) nursing experience in a Level 3 critical care unit (as defined by CCDSO)
- Experience caring for patients requiring hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring, mechanical ventilation, resuscitation, management of shock syndromes, and other advanced life‑support interventions (subject to testing)
- Knowledge and application of interpersonal and inter‑skilled conflict resolution, HHS Values‑Based Code of Conduct, and Mutual Respect
- Critical‑thinking skills to manage prioritization and respond to a rapidly changing environment
- Service Excellence behaviours in all interactions with patients and families
- Commitment to self‑directed professional education and development
- Understanding of problem‑solving and continuous quality improvement processes
- Proficiency in both official languages, French and English (asset)
