Registered Practical Nurse in Psychiatric Care

Join St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton as a Registered Practical Nurse. This role focuses on providing specialized psychiatric nursing care to adults with severe mental illness in a collaborative team environment.

As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will apply your nursing skills under Ontario's College of Nurses standards. You will work with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, and provide quality care for patients suffering from schizophrenia and related disorders. Essential skills include therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and a commitment to eliminating restraint usage.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide psychiatric nursing care under established standards

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for patient processing

• Assess and implement individualized care plans for patients

• Educate clients and families about therapeutic interventions

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of care

Requirements:

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

• Completion of a recognized Registered Practical Nurse program

• Minimum 1 year experience in psychiatric nursing preferred

• Current CPR and medication administration certification

• Knowledge of psychotropic medications and therapeutic strategies
