Mental health nursing and therapeutic communication anchor this regular full-time Registered Practical Nurse position at West 5th Campus in Hamilton.
St. Joseph’s Health System seeks a Registered Practical Nurse for its Forensic General Mountain 2 department. The position supports nursing care for mentally disordered adult offenders, including basic assessment, treatment, prevention, education, and supportive interventions. Work occurs within a multidisciplinary Forensic Psychiatry Program.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide nursing care to one or more offenders
- Complete basic assessment and treatment activities
- Deliver preventative and supportive nursing interventions
- Apply therapeutic communication and counselling knowledge
- Promote healing, recovery, and reduced restraint use
- Minimum one year of recent related clinical experience
- Psychiatric mental health nursing knowledge and experience
- College of Nurses of Ontario registration
- Current BCLS/HCP and required clinical certifications
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Use mental health expertise, therapeutic communication, and nursing judgment while supporting care within St. Joseph’s Forensic Psychiatry Program.
