Develop diesel-electric locomotive repair skills at CN through hands-on training, practical learning, and safety-focused railway maintenance work.
This apprentice-level role supports qualified personnel while building knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, and locomotive equipment. You will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, service, and maintain assigned components. The work follows company standards, railway rules, applicable regulations, and established safe work procedures.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist qualified personnel with locomotive inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance
- Complete scheduled, preventive, corrective, and on-request maintenance tasks
- Develop practical knowledge of diesel and locomotive systems
- Use tools, measuring devices, and diagnostic equipment safely
- Record defects, safety concerns, repairs, and equipment status
- Mechanical, diesel, automotive, or heavy-equipment experience, training, or aptitude
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent
- Apprenticeship enrollment, eligibility, or willingness to complete training
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate clearly
- Ability to work varying shifts and railway environments
