Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the caseworker provides support to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, developing and implementing case management strategies, making referrals, supervising supportive services, and maintaining client confidentiality.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a caseload.
- Complete intake and assessment for each resident.
- Provide problem‑solving and referral counseling to shelter residents.
- Build a network and refer clients to community services and Salvation Army resources.
- Offer evening coffee and snack; clean area upon completion.
- Design and implement interview schedule to evaluate quality‑of‑life improvements of participants.
- Assist front‑desk personnel with client issues and crises.
- Be available to respond to client issues in dining hall and kitchen during lunch.
- Record activities and incidents in Log Book or Incident Book accurately.
- Contact emergency services when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of clients, staff, and Centre records.
- Work closely with supervisor and carry out assigned tasks.
- Participate fully in the Harm Reduction Program, including providing safer supplies, educational kits, and client‑centered supports.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Booth Centre Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Meet with Program Director for supervision as scheduled.
- Model self‑motivation, punctuality, and personal hygiene.
- Sign agency and client confidentiality forms.
- Attend staff meetings, training workshops, and conferences as authorized.
- Work within the mandate and mission of the Salvation Army.
- Represent the Booth Centre professionally.
- May work with potentially aggressive clients.
- Involvement in Harm Reduction Program activities.
- University/College diploma in Social Service or related field; combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office, and other word‑processing tools.
- Knowledge of community‑based resources.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with socially disadvantaged individuals who may exhibit resentment or anger.
- Ability to set and implement goals for self and clients.
- Independent work capability and ability to work under supervision.
- Physical ability to lift/carry up to forty pounds.
- Successful completion of screening and background checks required by the Salvation Army.
- Willingness to support the mission and purpose of the Salvation Army in Canada.
30 hours per week. Flexibility required. Typical shifts: 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. Thursday–Friday, and 3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. Saturday–Sunday. ½ hour unpaid meal break.
