Position Summary
The Ship's Master has overall responsibility and authority regarding ship business, operations, discipline and for implementation and adherence, on board, to the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS). Represent the Owner of the vessel in its operation and in the execution of the ship’s business and any acts or decisions made are binding on the Company. Due to the erratic nature of vessel refuelling, all Officers of the Vessel are required to be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and to adopt a flex‑hour approach to the work schedule, maintenance and supervision of contractors.
Main Responsibilities
- Ensuring the safe and efficient loading and unloading of product from the vessel (docking and discharge).
- Ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of goods to pre‑designed destinations (maneuvering, operation of navigational and radio equipment, steering, ballast water management, navigation of rivers and direct line‑handling operations, crew management).
- Managing all shipboard operations.
- Implementing the Safety Management System on board the vessel, supervising and conducting safety drills and meetings.
- Directing the crew in emergency situations to protect crew safety, the environment and company assets.
- Maintaining compliance with regulations applicable by Transport Canada and/or local regulations.
- Investigating incidents involving crew injuries, environmental pollution and damage to company assets to the highest standard.
- Exhibiting exemplary leadership behavior.
- Demonstrating excellent oral and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master Local Voyage Certificate 3000 GT Domestic.
- A valid Marine Emergency Duties certificate.
- Marine Advanced First Aid Training.
- Simulated Electronic Navigation, SEN #2.
- Transport Canada Marine Medical Certificate.
- Radio Proficiency Certificate – ROC‑MC.
- Must be located within GTA/GTHA.
