Assistant Director Supervision; Anti- Laundering​/Anti-Terrorist Financing) Department

The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking the services of a skilled and capable individual to work as an Assistant Director in our Supervision (Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing) Department. Reporting to a Deputy Director, the Assistant Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing the Authority’s objectives of executing a risk-based AML/ATF supervisory plan for their team. Heading a team of AML/ATF supervisors, the Assistant Director is responsible for supporting the development of the annual supervisory plan, performing their assigned on-site and off-site reviews, supporting licence applications and changes and working effectively with other stakeholders inside and outside the Authority who are involved in implementing the Authority’s AML/ATF framework.

This is a key role for the Authority and the postholder will be responsible for but not limited to:

• Managing a team of supervisors to meet the Authority’s objectives and responsibilities in the area of AML/ATF licensing and on-site and off-site inspections
• In conjunction with the Risk and Analytics team, reviewing and maintaining the existing AML/ATF guidance notes and AML/ATF supervision policies and procedures against FATF recommendations and managing the updating process as necessary
• Engaging actively with other departments as it pertains to the Authority’s AML/ATF roles and responsibilities
• Providing senior level subject matter expertise to regulatory or policy team relative to the Authority’s statutory responsibilities within the various areas of AML supervision and compliance
• Participating in local and international meetings, conferences, seminars with other regulatory bodies, governmental agencies and the financial services industry
• Performing other related work and special projects as assigned by management in accordance with competencies normally associated with the post

This position requires a proven technical and business background, therefore, the postholder must have:

• A Master’s degree from a recognised institution in a business or finance-related field OR equivalent professional qualification(s) such as ICA, ACAMS, CFA, FRM from a recognised professional body in tandem with relevant work experience suitable to the responsibilities of the position
• Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience of which at least five (5) years should be at a senior level in the financial services business and/or working experience with a financial regulatory body
• Experience in conducting or participating in forensic accounting reviews, corporate investigations or inspections
• Proven experience in the evaluation of corporate governance structures, risk management frameworks and/or internal controls
• Knowledge of relevant local and international regulatory standards
