Position: Team Leader - School Nurse (South)

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated School Nurse Team Leader to provide strong clinical leadership and operational oversight within the School Nursing service. This is a key role supporting high‑quality, safe, and effective care for children, young people, and families, while working closely with senior nursing and management colleagues. The post holder will provide professional and clinical leadership to the School Nursing team, ensuring delivery of high standards of care in line with national and local policies.

You will work collaboratively within an integrated Primary Care and multi‑disciplinary environment, contributing to service development, quality improvement, and safeguarding practice. The role is operationally managed by the Service Manager, with close working relationships with the Senior Nurse and wider leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership to the School Nursing team, offering assurance on team performance, quality, and safety.
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of professional nursing standards, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, guidance, and best practice.
  • Act as a clinical expert in School Nursing, providing specialist advice and contributing to integrated Primary Care and multi‑disciplinary team working.
  • Deliver clinical supervision and professional support to School Nursing staff.
  • Support workload and caseload management, including taking responsibility for a caseload where required to meet service needs and priorities.
  • Identify, manage, and respond to child protection concerns in line with Child Protection Guidelines.
  • Provide and participate in multi‑agency child protection processes, including contributing to written reports, supporting staff, and attending case conferences.
  • Teach, support, and supervise nursing students and junior colleagues, providing mentorship and guidance in child health services.
  • Contribute to service planning, development, and prioritisation of care delivery.
  • Organise, prioritise, and manage own workload effectively in a dynamic service environment.

What

we’ll need you to bring
  • RN (Child Branch) with 5 years post registration experience
  • Two years of expert practice within the speciality i.e.

    - Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy, Complex Care/Life Limiting Conditions
  • Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level*
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • The postholder will possess excellent team‑working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management skills
It would be great if you also have
  • Registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration
  • Registered Health Visitor / SPQ in Public Health Nursing
  • Post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently.
  • Further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • Management qualification or equivalent gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.
