The role:

The post holder will work within the nursing and multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to a defined patient group. Competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this defined patient group. You will act as deputy to the ward manager.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
  • We are seeking dynamic and compassionate Band 6 Charge Nurses to join our 30-bed Acute Surgical Receiving Ward — the frontline of surgical admissions within the North Directorate in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary
  • The shift pattern for this post is rotational
Key responsibilities:
  • Provide clinical leadership for the assessment of patient needs ,implementation and evaluation of programmes of care which are evidence based. Utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with guidelines for records and record keeping.
  • Practice within the legal & Ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council () and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive () Legislation, Policy, Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
  • Provide an appropriate learning environment in line with NES Quality Placement
  • Ensure completion of clinical appraisals for pre and post registration nurses.
  • Demonstrate own professional development.
  • Identify research/clinical audit priorities in conjunction with relevant professional

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
  • First Level Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years post registration experience
  • 1 years experience and appropriate post registration qualification/relevant experience in specialty
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
