The Role

This post is for Lead Pharmacist Advanced Clinical Services which encompasses leadership across the Prescribing Quality & Efficiency and Pharmacotherapy work streams in primary care. The main responsibility for the advertised post is to lead on the Prescribing Quality & Efficiency workstream (medicines and non-medicines), with a focus on the development and operational delivery of pharmacy and prescribing data services across the managed services in Lanarkshire, including the hosted services.

This will involve working closely with the Heads of Pharmacy for the North and South Lanarkshire HSCPs on priority areas within the partnerships. Examples of the hosted services within Lanarkshire include sexual health, paediatrics, dietetics, diabetes, dental, etc. NHS Lanarkshire is a dynamic and progressive healthcare organisation committed to providing high-quality, patient‑centred care to the communities it serves. The NHS Lanarkshire pharmacy service delivers clinically‑led, person‑centred services to ensure patients get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a senior leadership role within the Primary Care Prescribing Management Team. You will lead on developing, implementing and monitoring the Prescribing Quality & Efficiency Programme for the North and South Lanarkshire HSCPs. You will develop strategies to maintain financial balance of the prescribing budget, and, with a track record of service leadership, delivery and innovation, you will turn strategy into action.

You will be responsible for strategic and operational advice in all matters relating to prescribing and medicines management across Lanarkshire and be a member of key decision‑making prescribing and governance committees. You will work closely with senior managers and clinicians across Lanarkshire to influence and implement change in prescribing practice, promoting high quality, safe, cost‑effective, rational and evidence‑based prescribing.

The post holder will be a UK registered pharmacist with experience in prescribing data analysis, service leadership, policy development and delivery of sustained systems of prescribing management across a range of services. The post holder will also support leadership of the pharmacotherapy workstream and be an independent prescriber (or prepared to work towards).
