The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service that’s dedicated to the nuclear industry. Our Professional Standards Department (PSD) has the responsibility for the investigation of crime and misconduct committed by either officers or police staff, and we are looking for Investigators to join us on a mobile basis
.

These positions will investigate misconduct and complaints against officers and staff in accordance with the law and relevant regulations. This will include cases where there is evidence to suggest misconduct or malpractice is suspected of being committed.

You will conduct investigations into deaths following police contact and other serious incidents involving police personnel, which are subject to a voluntary or mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in England and Wales and the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) in Scotland. These investigations will be executed expeditiously; within specific timescales and will be compliant with Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) Guidance, to which you will report to.

You will also deliver formalised updates of case progress to complainants and employees involved in investigations.

You will build relationships with Operational Policing Units (OPU’s) and force departments in assisting identifying causes of complaints. You’ll work closely in support of our Force Legal Department to prepare and present evidence at gross misconduct and misconduct hearings.

To become a member of the Professional Standards Department, you must conform with Equalities Legislation and promote equality; diversity and inclusivity through your daily interactions and avoid any behaviours which discriminate against others.

To be successful in this role you’ll have proven investigative skills gained within a policing or similar regulated agency role, with the ability to identify and collate evidence and intelligence. You’ll have an understanding of CPIA/Disclosure responsibilities in criminal or disciplinary investigations.

You will be an accredited PIP2 Investigator, experienced conducting interviews under PACE, forensic awareness/ exhibit handling, and have knowledge of the National Intelligence Model. It is desirable you will have knowledge of Police Conduct Regulations and associated legislation and guidance, particularly in a pro‑active and counter‑corruption context. It would be ideal if you had experience of PSD investigations with the appropriate professional training (SANCUS).

If you have proven investigative skills; with excellent communication skills (written and verbal), and have strong negotiation and influencing capabilities, you will be an excellent addition to the team!

This role is a mobile position and travel throughout the UK will be required, details of which will be discussed and agreed with the successful individual and line manager.
