Job Overview

University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), operating within Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is dedicated to excellence in providing physical, mental health, dental and sex offender treatment services to those involved in the criminal justice systems in New Jersey. UCHC operates with a total budget of $150 million and employs approximately 1,000 staff.

Position Summary

Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Full‑Time Technician I for Garden State Youth Correctional Facility located in Yardville, NJ. The Technician I participates as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the prison.

Responsibilities
  • Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for examination.
  • Obtains specimen collection and handling, including drawing blood.
  • Assists with cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit.
  • Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Maintains the supply stock in the examination rooms.
  • Aggregates the orders of all medications and forwards to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacy.
Qualifications
  • Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification required.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Valid driver’s license is required. Must possess own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
  • CPR certification.
  • Physically able to lift and rotate patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds) and perform CPR for at least 10 minutes.
  • Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.

Salary

Grade 137 – FLSA Nonexempt. Minimum Salary: $20,410. Mid‑Range Salary: $20,910. Maximum Salary: $21,540.
