Special Education Teacher Assistant - ATP & Career Readiness
Assist special education teachers with daily instructional and non‑instructional classroom management activities for students in the Secondary Functional Program (Adult Programming) and Career Readiness. Position is based at Calhoun Intermediate School District and requires working directly with students, teachers, treatment staff, and administrators.
Base Pay: $17.44 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher with implementing each student's Individual Education Program (IEP) involving instructional, behavioral, and therapeutic activities.
- Attend weekly staff and team meetings and other meetings as requested.
- Carry out instructional support activities with students in school, Community‑Based Instruction (CBI), and work placements under the teacher's direction.
- Plan and implement educational activities, supervise students, and provide guidance as directed.
- Maintain student behavior through approved behavioral interventions and techniques.
- Assist students with self‑help, health, and behavior needs including toileting and personal care.
- Help maintain classroom organization and prepare instructional materials for teaching and display.
- Lead small‑group activities independently.
- Supervise students during loading/unloading on buses, in gym, and on the playground.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lb. individually and pushing up to 100 lb. students.
- Follow medical protocol under nurse supervision for students with medical needs.
- Implement behavior‑management programs and document progress relative to IEP goals.
- Maintain required forms, records, and classroom cleanliness.
- Adhere to district health and safety procedures, maintain professional appearance, and uphold confidentiality.
Minimum Professional Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Personal Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, treatment staff, and administrators.
- Knowledge of computer technology and software applications is preferred.
- Good physical health and stamina.
- Ability to function well within a team in an educational setting.
