Before & After School Group Leader (Fairfield, Franklin, Hamilton, Middletown, Oxford, Trenton)
Join the Great Miami Valley YMCA as a Before & After School Group Leader. This part‑time position requires 18+ years of age, 15–30 hours per week, and ability to work AM (6:30 am–8 am or 9:30 am – Monday‑Friday) or PM (2 pm–3:30 pm – 6 pm Monday‑Friday) shifts. Start at $13.00/hr with a $250 sign‑on bonus awarded after the first 90 days.
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Branch Childcare Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Group Leader is responsible for the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of each child within their care. They plan, develop, and implement activities while ensuring safety and well‑being of children as a priority.
Essential Functions- Manage, direct, and coordinate high‑quality preschool and after‑school programs.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, local and “Step Up to Quality” regulations.
- Ensure YMCA standards, safety procedures, and child‑to‑staff ratios are met.
- Interact with children on individual developmental levels.
- Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that fit children’s needs and interests.
- Assist with planning and posting meals and snacks that meet nutritional guidelines.
- Manage program budget and collect fees within budget.
- Implement marketing to increase attendance and registration.
- Register children, maintain waiting lists, and develop relationships with licensing agencies, schools, parents, and community organizations.
- Train, supervise, and evaluate staff on policies and procedures.
- Respond to agency, parent, and community inquiries and complaints promptly.
- Document and report special needs or problems of children, staff, or parents.
- Maintain appearance of classroom/outside areas and keep supplies orderly.
- Attend staff meetings and complete required trainings (15 hours per year or 45 hours per three years).
- Education:
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; associate’s degree in Child Development, Education or related field preferred. - Certifications:
Current First Aid, Communicable Disease, Child Abuse Recognition & Prevention and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire. - Experience:
Two years related experience as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs preferred. - Other:
Ability to relate to diverse groups, knowledge of child developmental stages, valid driver’s license for multiple sites, proficient computer skills, at least 21 years of age.
- Walk, stand, sit (including on floor) while maintaining alertness for long periods.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Apply guidelines and procedures creatively and enthusiastically.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with families, children, and staff.
- Respond swiftly to critical situations during emergencies.
- Maintain composure in turbulent, challenging conditions.
