Overnight Camp Counselor - YMCA Camp Campbell Gard

Under the direction of the Summer Camp Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, a resident overnight counselor will work closely with a co-counselor to lead a group of campers through a successful week nselors are responsible for campers in the cabin, leading activities, and assisting campers through any challenges and triumphs they may face throughout the week.
EssentialFunctions
- Alongside a co-counselor, supervise and live with up to 12 campers.
- Create a supportive cabin environment where campers feel respected and learn to respect one another.
- Plan and lead daily camp programs and activities including archery, canoeing, sports, crafts, etc.
- Maintain safety and welfare of all campers, including appropriate supervision ratios.
- Assist with cabin activities such as horse trail rides, zip‑lining, and BB gun range.
- Participate in activities with children, including daily swimming in the pool.
- Provide physical, emotional, and social support to campers.
- Assist campers with a variety of needs such as homesickness, behavior management, and conflict resolution.
- Follow safety guidelines and implement all ACA and Camp Govern rules.
- Work effectively as a team with all Camp staff.
- Participate in evening programming, house games, and campfire activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- First Aid and CPR certifications or willingness to obtain.
- Desire and willingness to work with children.
- Previous work or volunteer experience with children.
- Ability to adapt quickly and respond with quick reaction.
- Demonstrate good judgment.
- Requires long periods of time outdoors.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with families, children, and staff.
- Position may require bending, sitting, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Must be creative and enthusiastic to staff, campers, and families.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and act quickly in an emergency.
- Ability to maintain emotional control and composure in turbulent challenging conditions.
