Summary Of Primary Function / General Purpose Of PositionThe X‑Ray Technician performs digital X‑ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X‑Ray Technician is a multi‑skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider.
Essential Job Functions- Safely performs provider‑ordered radiographic examinations, including proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilizing appropriate radiation protection.
- Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases. Positions and handles patients with a high degree of safety and professionalism.
- Accurately documents patient encounters within Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x‑ray tube, and equipment.
- Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs. Collect patient specimens and run point‑of‑care lab tests. Travel to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjust work hours as directed by the manager if required.
- Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross‑contamination of disease.
- Reports immediately any malfunction, necessary adjustments or repairs of equipment to supervisor.
- Other duties include, but are not limited to, ordering supplies, lab and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check‑in/check‑out and performing scribing duties as needed.

Licensing / CertificationCertification and Registration with ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (required)
State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed). If the job is performed in Virginia, State Licensure is required.
BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (required). Preferred upon hire; must obtain from an approved source prior to direct patient care.
EducationAssociate's degree from an ARRT accredited institute (preferred)
Experience1 year experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred)
Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred)
TrainingEPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred)
Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) (preferred)
Other Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesMedical Terminology and the ability to use standard office equipment (required)
Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with patients, families and teams within a high‑volume environment (preferred)
Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask without prior instruction or direction (preferred)
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on her or his assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and provide the necessary care as described in departmental policies and procedures.
