SummaryThe X-Ray Technician performs digital X-ray studies on patients per the orders placed by providers. The X-Ray Technician is a multi-skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice to assist in patient care under the direction of the provider.
Essential Job Functions- Safely performs provider ordered radiographic examinations, including proper patient positioning, immobilization, and utilizing appropriate radiation protection.
- Sets up and adjusts supportive and immobilization equipment and devices as required by individual cases. Positions and handles patients with safety and professionalism.
- Accurately documents patient encounters within the EMR.
- Determines and selects proper electronic and technical factors which safeguard the patient, x-ray tube, and equipment.
- Maintains clinical and administrative skills to meet patient care and daily operational needs. Collects patient specimens and runs point-of-care lab tests. Travel to other facilities for BSMH providers or adjusting work hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the manager may also be required.
- Directs and practices sterile technique to prevent cross-contamination of disease.
- Reports any equipment malfunction, necessary adjustments or repairs to supervisor.
- Other duties include but are not limited to ordering supplies, lab and diagnostic tests, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, check-in/check-out and performing scribing duties as needed.

Licensing/Certifications- ARRT Certification and Registration is required.
- State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state). In Virginia, State Licensure is required.
- BLS – American Heart Association (preferred on hire; must obtain prior to direct patient care; required).
- Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited program (preferred).
- 1 year of experience in radiation safety and patient care (preferred).
- Experience with Radiology Information System (preferred).
- EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) (preferred).
- PACS (preferred).

- Medical terminology and ability to use standard office equipment (required).
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to collaborate with patients, families and teams in a high-volume environment (preferred).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask without prior instruction (preferred).
- Ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and knowledge of growth and development principles.
