This Community Health Technician supports public health initiatives by assisting with office and engagement events that focus on improving the health of the community through chronic disease prevention. The technician will assist with public health efforts by providing outreach, education and resources to the community for a duration of 6 months. This position is designed for individuals who are committed to improving health and wellness outcomes in the community.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in planning, development, and implementation of health education programs and outreach activities
  • Supports immunization clinics, health screenings, community events and wellness fairs
  • Provides health information regarding local health resources and services to the community
  • Maintains accurate records and assists with data entry and reporting
  • Conducts engagement outreach to underserved populations
  • Collects basic health data under supervision
  • Collaborates with public health staff
  • Assists in providing health resource information/event promotion through various media outlets
  • Participates in emergency response activities as needed or as directed
  • Performs related work as directed
Skills
  • Ability to learn department and citywide procedures and standard policies
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with health department and other city department employees, supervisory personnel and the public
  • Ability to work in enclosed spaces and outdoors in all types of weather, etc. as required by position
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be dependable, compassionate, and culturally sensitive
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from a college or technical school with a minimum of an Associate’s degree in public health, health sciences or a related field
  • The ability to work up to 36 hours per week
  • Basic Computer Skills (data entry, email, Google Docs)
  • A valid driver’s license and/or other licenses/certificates may be required
