Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries

Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, founded in 1916, is one of the largest providers of rehabilitation services in the State of Ohio. Utilizing our retail store network, we generate sales revenue to support thousands of individuals with disabilities and homeless local veterans.

Retail General Manager (GM)

Manage daily operations of the retail store, including production activities and retail selling floor. Responsibilities include customer service, stocking, merchandising, inventory control, budgeting, record keeping, production efficiency, housekeeping, safety, loss prevention, and merchandise flow coordination. Define roles and responsibilities for direct reports, set performance expectations, provide training, and give consistent feedback.

Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
  • Two to three years of progressive retail management experience supervising several departments and/or staff of 15 or more employees.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in retail or equivalent industry.
  • Experience selecting, assessing, coaching, and developing associates, preferably in a retail environment.
  • Full Profit & Loss ownership.
  • Proficiency in setting and managing schedules for store staff.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Math and computer skills required.
  • Broad knowledge of the thrift and resale industry and ability to react competitively.
  • Highly developed customer service and interpersonal skills, including integrity, respect for diversity, critical and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to perform same functions as direct reports, complete paperwork and reports timely, exercise good judgment, work flexible schedule, and may be required to work at other locations.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises the Retail Assistant Manager, Retail Supervisor, Merchandise Processors & Sales Associates.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Overall operations of the retail store, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Oversee production levels and quality of merchandise on the sales floor to optimize revenue generation.
  • Manage inventory levels of all merchandise lines.
  • Monitor and ensure smooth flow of donations adhering to published standards, security, safety, and State laws.
  • Maintain staffing levels while attaining budgeted payroll, including hiring, training, and managing store employees.
  • Oversee volunteers and/or temporary labor working in store as needed.
  • Perform all requested reporting requirements on a timely basis, including surveys, production reports, and sales reports.
  • Review and analyze profit and loss statements and adjust store operations according to data.
  • Ensure daily banking requirements are met.
  • Set and manage schedules so store needs are always met.
  • Manage time and attendance through the Company timekeeping program and submit payroll according to established deadlines.
  • Maintain effective communication with all divisions and other stores.
  • Create an atmosphere of exceptional customer service for internal and external customers and serve as point of resolution for complaints and grievances.
  • Comply with and enforce organizational policies and standards.
  • Strive to reduce store turnover through proper training, selection, and motivation of the store team.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in both a climate controlled and non-climate controlled environment.
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift).
  • Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  • Moderate noise in a business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic.
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to perform computer based work frequently.
