Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate English Tutor to deliver high‑quality Higher‑Level English programmes to learners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs. You will work with small groups of prison‑based learners, supporting them to develop strong literacy skills, gain confidence and work towards recognised qualifications that support their long‑term goals and progression.
In this rewarding role, you will design structured lessons, deliver engaging sessions, and support learners through every stage of their development. Your contribution will play a vital role in rehabilitation, learner confidence building and successful educational outcomes within a secure environment.

Key Responsibilities
Vocational Delivery & Learner Engagement
 
Deliver high‑quality English teaching to small groups of learners.

- Develop learners' literacy skills, written communication, comprehension and professional behaviours.

- Adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs and align delivery with qualification frameworks.

- Assess and track learner progress, providing clear and constructive feedback.

- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments and learner achievements.  Learner Support & Progression
 
Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes participation and achievement.

- Support learners in developing confidence, resilience and wider employability skills.

- Contribute to the development and review of individual learning plans (ILPs).

- Encourage and prepare learners for further study, vocational training or employment opportunities.

Quality, Compliance & Collaboration
 
Support curriculum development and continuous improvement of English delivery.

- Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity and health & safety standards across all learning sessions.

- Work collaboratively with prison staff and education colleagues to ensure effective delivery.

- Ensure teaching, learning and assessment activities meet internal and external quality requirements.

Essential Criteria
 
Level 3 English qualification or equivalent.

- Strong subject knowledge with substantial experience in English‑related roles.

- Experience delivering training, teaching or literacy support.

- Ability to use varied teaching methods to engage and motivate diverse learners.

- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria
 
Teaching or assessing qualification (e.g., AET, PTLLS, CAVA).

- Experience delivering English or academic subjects within prison education or alternative settings.

- Willingness to work towards a teaching or assessing qualification (full support provided).
