GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Responsible for advising and overseeing the activities of the chess team. The chess team is open to any academically qualified students. The Chess Team holds frequent matches to prepare for state-wide tournaments throughout the school year.

• Develop opportunities for all students interested in chess
• Create criteria for selecting students to compete in the conference
• Supervise chess team activities
• Determine roles and select team leaders
• Establish team goals, plan for preparation and competitions, and promote these goals
• Encourage students to learn and improve their chess skills
• Monitor and manage the chess team budget
• Help plan fundraisers, team events, and competitions
• Organize and coordinate practices and tournaments
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

• Knowledge of chess rules and gameplay
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff, and community members
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Reliable and punctual attendance

• Personnel are recommended annually by the principal and approved by the Superintendent. Compensation is determined by the School City of Hammond agreement.
• Annual performance evaluations will be conducted.
