Position Overview: The middle school Athletic Coach reports to the athletic director and building principal, responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing athletic activities assigned to them.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Report to the building principal and the Director of Physical Education and Athletics.
• Establish objectives and develop plans for the athletic program.
• Promote participation and friendly competition, emphasizing educational value over win-loss records.
• Ensure athletic activities complement the overall educational program and coordinate with school activities.
• Provide vigorous activities to develop physical health and skills.
• Foster leadership, sportsmanship, self-confidence, and discipline in students.
• Be knowledgeable of relevant rules, policies, and regulations set by authorities including the Indiana High School Athletic Association.
• Assist in preparing budgets, hiring officials, requisitioning equipment, and managing team logistics.
• Follow procedures for injuries and ensure all athletes have necessary physical examinations and documentation.
• Work with the athletic director on eligibility, equipment, and scheduling.
• Develop public relations with parents and media.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Establish rules for conduct and appearance to promote a positive environment.

Qualifications:

• Expert knowledge of the sport.
• Understanding of participants' physical, mental, and emotional needs.
• Ability to teach fundamentals effectively.
• Strong character, personality, and high moral standards.
• Effective communication skills with students, parents, staff, and officials.
• Knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.
• Availability to supervise beyond school hours.
• Other duties as assigned.

Employment Details:

• Recommended annually by the principal and approved by the superintendent.
• Compensation as per the School City of Hammond agreement.
• Annual performance evaluations.
