The OHE Lineman B assists the Journeyman Lineman and the Foreman while in training, learning the trade. The role performs work related to the construction and maintenance of poles, power lines, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the transmission and distribution of electricity. The position supports and learns from the Lineman team and works with other personnel in the department while upholding safety practices.
Responsibilities- Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution electrical or power lines.
- Provide technical skills needed for the operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
- Connect and disconnect, install and remove, move and transfer various electrical devices on customer facilities, such as transformers, regulator switches, capacitor banks, etc.
- Route or re‑route power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures.
- Inspect and/or remove damaged power lines.
- Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and other operations involved in setting or replacing poles.
- Perform line switching or sectionalizing, as directed.
- Provide backup for Class A Apprentice Lineman and assist in completion of duties.
- Submit all Apprentice Program required documentation promptly.
- Triumph electrical problems on customer equipment as needed.
- Drive bucket truck to job site and maintain truck equipment.
- Investigate consumer complaints and repair energized electrical distribution lines when required.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of lineman experience.
- Valid Class A CDL required.
- 3 or more years of lineman experience.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
This job operates in a field environment that routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting. Work may be performed in inclement weather such as extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Essential physical demands include the ability to lift, bend, and carry up to 50 pounds, maintain vision at 20 feet or more, and exhibit precise hand‑eye coordination and color discrimination.
