Design Engineer

Our client, in the highways sector, is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their team on a contract basis.

This role offers the chance to work on developing concept and feasibility designs, producing detailed design packages that adhere to industry standards and local authority requirements. The role involves collaborating across multiple disciplines, managing stakeholder expectations, and ensuring that all designs are practical, robust, and aligned with wider network strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Developing concept and feasibility designs for highway projects
Producing detailed design packages compliant with DMRB, LTN 1/20, and local authority standards
Preparing drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities
Coordinating with road safety, drainage, and traffic signals teams to ensure seamless integration
Managing stakeholder expectations, including councillors, residents, and internal colleagues
Ensuring designs are technically sound, safe, and buildable
Aligning designs with wider network strategies and project goals

Job Requirements:

Significant experience in highway engineering and design
Strong understanding of the highway sector and relevant standards including DMRB and LTN 1/20
Experience in producing comprehensive design packages and technical drawings
Knowledge of stakeholder management and effective communication skills
Familiarity with highway safety, drainage, and traffic signal coordination
Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment
Relevant engineering qualification or equivalent
