Blackstone Recruitment are currently working with an NHS Trust based in Hampshire who are looking to recruit permanent Sonographers to join their team.

JOB SUMMARY

• To undertake ultrasound lists autonomously, report independently on ultrasound examinations and communicate findings to referring clinician – the range and type of examination dependent on experience/competency, and maintain high clinical and professional standards.

• To identify and research best practice.

• To work closely with the manager to help management and planning of an efficient ultrasound service.

Key Responsibilities:

To safely and effectively operate ultrasound equipment, adhering to British Medical Ultrasound (BMUS) guidelines.

To ensure that high professional standards are maintained throughout the department, in terms of patient care, technical quality and appearance.

Assist with the development and implementation of a range of guidelines, policies and protocols in line with strategic, political and professional requirements.

Demonstrate political and strategic awareness. Implement innovative audit and initiate change.

To have a flexible approach to working patterns in order to meet the continuing needs of the service.

To recognise and respond sensitively and appropriately to individual patients’ needs.

To take on extra roles within the department as required, and as training and development allow. To exercise professional self-regulation taking account of limitations of self and the practice of other professional members of the multidisciplinary team. To independently coordinate, manage and monitor own work lists.

To facilitate adherence to self-regulatory frameworks across the service/organisation.

To assist with the organisation of equipment servicing and management of breakdowns.

To adopt a pro-active approach to Clinical Governance, Clinical Incident Reporting, and identifying and reporting any possible risk.

To be aware of Clinical Governance issues using clinical incident reporting procedure correctly to raise awareness of irregularities in standards of clinical practice.

To assist with Risk Assessments as required.

Formulate, update and implement departmental ultrasound procedures and policies.

To adhere to departmental scanning protocols and reporting methods to minimise possible errors.

To adhere to all Trust policies, guidelines and procedures.
To assist in the investigation of Clinical incidents.
To promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace.
To ensure the practice of self and others is at all times compliant with infection control policy and procedures.
Ability to reflect on and learn from relevant research evidence, policies and legislation and apply across professional and organisational boundaries. Shares information gained through CPD to influence practice.
Initiate changes to practice through evidence based research

Further duties include:

Teaching, Training and Research Responsibilities

Essential Criteria :

 1. Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (DMU) or PgD in Diagnostic Ultrasound or other equivalent ultrasound qualification

 2. Attended courses, conferences and further professional qualifications

 3. Advanced computer skills, with a working knowledge of Microsoft applications

 4. Demonstrate extensive clinical knowledge of ultrasound scanning techniques and appropriate technology in multiple areas.

 5. Have extensive experience in reporting of ultrasound examinations and relevant patient management. Ability to report of advanced cases.

 6.  Experience in teaching and assessing individuals in a range of subjects

 7. Car Driver due to need to visit other hospital sites
