Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to work in our friendly, well equipped Cellular Pathology department, which processes approximately 35,000 samples per year, providing essential services to the Trust and the wider health care community.
You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and your work will ensure that the department continues to deliver a high quality, timely and effective service, where patient experience and safety is central.
Appointment will require the post-holder hold a Specialist Diploma or an equivalent level of post registration experience to demonstrate you are flexible and highly organised, able to align your values with those of the organisation and able to work as part of a team with a ‘can-do’ positive attitude.
Responsibilities- Participate in all core aspects of routine Cellular Pathology including microtomy, embedding, special staining techniques, Immunohistochemistry and specimen transfers.
- Engage with Quality Management, Health & Safety and Quality Improvement; experience in these areas will be advantageous.
- Be part of an exciting period of service development, with the opportunity to be involved with the implementation of a Digital Pathology solution.
- Work as part of the central Histology laboratory service based at the Royal Hampshire Hospital site in Winchester, with a small satellite team at the Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital.
- Routinely work as part of the team based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital with a commitment at the Basingstoke site as part of the BMS rotational team to lead the team and perform frozen section and OSNA techniques, once training where required is in place.
- Specialist Diploma or equivalent level of post-registration experience.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Experience of Quality Management, Health & Safety and Quality Improvement is advantageous.
The Hampshire Hospitals Cellular Pathology is accredited by UKAS to ISO
15189:2022 and complies with HTA standards. The department is undergoing development with Digital Pathology, and there are opportunities for continuing professional development with further technical and academic options available to staff.
