Research & Development Lab Technician at Atlas Roofing Corporation

Position

Summary

The Research & Development Lab Technician performs laboratory specification testing, including inspection and testing of finished production, experimental products, and raw materials to ensure they meet Atlas specifications. The role requires basic computer skills, attention to detail, knowledge of experimental design, and willingness to travel to manufacturing locations as needed. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide inspection and testing of all finished products and raw materials to ensure they meet Atlas’ specifications. Communicate any out‑of‑spec testing to Manager.
  • Perform line audits to assess finished quality and in‑process quality including temperatures, speed, pressures, etc.
  • Assist in the training of employees on specific test methods and equipment.
  • Input data into computers as per specification requirements.
  • Input data into Microsoft products and Minitab daily and verify data accuracy at the end of the month for QC monthly report.
  • Assist in the Competitive & Sister Audits when time allows.
  • Communicate with supervision and production employees regarding quality issues during the production process.
  • Maintain lab equipment, scales and equipment on the manufacturing floor required for quality testing. Responsible for cleaning of testing materials, beakers, SP apparatus, etc., keeping the lab in good working order and tidy.
  • Perform testing for all products.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new products.
  • Participate in project teams to improve quality, process, or performance on roofing products.
  • Travel to other production locations, industry meetings, and vendors as required.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and wear proper PPE.
  • Perform other tasks as requested.

  • Knowledge of R&D laboratory processes and familiarity with manufacturing process.
Education and Experience
  • High School education or equivalent.
  • Some college or an associate’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a laboratory setting.
