The Operations Support/Payroll Technician handles all payroll and time related issues of daily transportation services and personnel assigned.


Essential Job Functions:

(Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

  • Maintains attendance and leave records; verifies and corrects leave and work hours data in HASTUS.
  • Maintains daily time and attendance records for operators; processes requests for sickness and absences; advises appropriate personnel of circumstances to be investigated.
  • Bi-weekly processing of the merge (operator payroll).
  • Verifies HASTUS time created to time transferred to People Soft HCM for accuracy.
  • Maintains attendance cards.
  • Checks and verifies operators’ hours.
  • Tracks operator vacation and personal time, sick leave, leave of absences and FMLA leave.
  • Maintains a knowledge of the bargaining unit contract and work rules.
  • Keeps the Manager of Bus Transportation informed of any problems through effective communication.
  • Maintain working relationship with Operators, Supervisors, and other personnel.
  • Performs a variety of specialized clerical and administrative duties in support of the department.
  • Prepares daily and special reports as required.
  • Organizes department files and manages records created and received in compliance with the Hampton Roads Transit Records Management Policy and Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.


    • Required Knowledge, Abilities and Skills essential to Job Functions:

    The Payroll Technician receives limited supervision from the Sr. Manager of Bus Transportation or Manager of Bus Transportation. Abnormal hours and/or split shifts may be required; must work outside regular service and business hours as required. Considerable knowledge of the service area, routes and types of equipment. Considerable knowledge of HRT policies
