The Virginia Cooperative Extension is seeking a Youth Development Program Associate to bring educational programs to life for young people across our community. In this role, you’ll plan, implement, and evaluate hands‑on youth development initiatives, build relationships with local leaders, and help organize impactful programs that make a lasting difference.

- Conducts 4-H educational programs for youth at various neighborhood locations; ensures that all programs conform to VCE and 4-H guidelines; ensures the all programs address the needs of the community and youth servicing organizations/agencies.
- Evaluates the success of each program and provides statistics on the participants; completes all other related paperwork.
- Visits key leaders in targeted communities and/or youth serving organizations/agencies to determine the viability of organizing 4-H clubs or programs.
- Assists in the formation of those clubs or programs, ensuring balanced extension programs and the implementation of the VCE Civil Rights Compliance Plan.
- Meets as needed with the Hampton 4-H leaders; recruits adults to become 4-H volunteer leaders. Involves parents of youth when appropriate.
- Participates in monthly VCE staff meetings and attends training as assigned.
- Participates in quarterly Extension Leadership Council meetings.
- Assists in answering telephones and keeping 4-H files updated.
- Performs other related duties as required.
The purpose of this class is to plan, implement and evaluate 4-H Youth Development educational programs for the Virginia Cooperative Extension (VCE) Office.
Minimum Requirements- Graduation from high school or successful completion of GED.
- Requires a minimum of one (1) year of programmatic experience in working with youth ages 5-19.
- Requires a minimum of one (1) year of experience in preparing lesson plans and conducting instructional programs for youth.
- Computer experience preferred.
- Requires flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills; ability to work with diverse populations; good interpersonal, leadership and team skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.
- Individuals under consideration for this position will be subject to criminal background and Child Protective Services checks.
- Performs duties under the general supervision of the Unit Coordinator, 4-H Youth Development Agent. Requires extensive contact with youth, ages 5-19, and their parents.
- Must be able to provide means of on-the-job transportation for travel within the city.
- May be required to perform duties on a split shift to include evenings and weekends.
