Overview

License and Certification

• Virginia or Compact Multi‑State RN license in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire

Education

• RN‑Associate’s Degree, RN‑Bachelor’s Degree, RN‑Diploma, or RN‑Master’s Degree

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of Critical Care (ICU) or prior PACU experience required

Clinical Scope & Patient Population

Provide Phase I recovery care for a mixed level of surgical procedures including:

• Vascular
• Urology & Gynecology
• Orthopedics
• Oncology
• Bariatrics
• General Surgery

Unique to this unit, the PACU team also oversees recovery of all cases utilizing General Anesthesia from CVIR and Endoscopy departments.

Schedule

• 0.9 FTE / 36 hours average per week:
  Day Shift 8 hours rotating between 0745‑1615, 0800‑1630, and 0900‑1730

On‑call Requirements

• Weeknight Call: 4–5 shifts per 6‑week schedule block, 21:00‑07:00 (overnight coverage)
• Weekend Call: 1 weekend per 6‑week schedule block, Saturday 07:00‑Monday 07:00 (48‑hour continuous coverage)

Key Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive post‑anesthesia assessments, emphasizing airway management, hemodynamic stability, and pain control.
• Manage a 10‑bed unit flow effectively, prioritizing patient acuity and discharge readiness.
• Collaborate closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and proceduralists (Endo/CVIR) for seamless continuity of care.
• Administer medications and treatments according to established policies and patient needs.
• Educate patients and families regarding post‑operative care and discharge instructions.
