University Housing Maintenance Technician (Filling More Than One) Special Instructions for Applicants

The role performs preventive and reactive maintenance in university residential facilities. Tasks include troubleshooting, evaluating issues, and completing repairs ranging from routine to complex, such as installing faucets, repairing door locks, drywall work, appliance repair, and related maintenance. Technicians provide support during move‑in and move‑out periods, typically on weekends, to ensure timely response to student work orders and maintain good working conditions.
ResponsibilitiesUnder minimal supervision, the Technician:
- Diagnoses and repairs moderately complex carpentry, plumbing, HVAC components, flooring, ceilings, doors, locks, paint, fire alarm panels, gas fireplaces, electric/gas appliances, and electrical fixtures.
- Performs repairs in areas where students, faculty, or staff may be present.
- Skilled use of hand and power tools.
- Interprets written and oral instructions and performs manual labor as required.
- Provides vendor escort on campus and grants access to secure areas.
- Completes routine residential or commercial repairs, prioritizes work orders, and reports potential issues to management.
- Works a daytime schedule and is on‑call on a rotating basis; additional hours may be required for summer room turnover or emergencies.
- Operations involve basic computer skills.
- High school graduate or equivalent education/experience that equates to a high school diploma.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience using hand tools.
- Experience performing residential or commercial maintenance.
- Experience working in a university or residential setting.
- Experience performing moderately complex maintenance such as appliance repairs/replacements, installing new lighting fixtures, or rebuilding flush valves.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
