The Kings County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking qualified individuals for the positions of:

EMERGENCY DISPATCHER I/II

Level I: $49,212.80 - $60,049.60 Annually

Level II: $54,371.20 - $66,331.20 Annually

Kings County Sheriff's Office is hiring Emergency Dispatchers I/II to answer critical calls and coordinate police, fire, and medical response. This fast-paced role is ideal for calm, confident professionals ready to support public safety when every second counts.

Some duties, knowledge, skills, and abilities may be performed in a learning capacity for entry-level (I Level) positions.

  • Receives, analyzes, and evaluates 911, Sheriff’s emergency and business calls, inquiries and complaints, fire, ambulance, roads, animal control, and maintenance; dispatches calls to appropriate parties; determines proper jurisdiction, staff and equipment to be dispatched.
  • Monitors several public safety frequencies and the status of public safety units to ensure officer safety and availability for services.
  • Operates multiple communications devices and computers concurrently to insure swift and appropriate response to calls; continuously updates suspect information and deputy locations.
  • Maintains efficient records of radio calls and information logs; maintains and accesses business and premise history and index files for emergency and other necessary contacts.
  • Accesses local, state and federal criminal justice information systems; operates teletype systems to transmit and receive information.
  • Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment, allied agencies, including mobile and portable units; recognizes units from other agencies and assists them with County units or provides requested information.
  • Monitors alarms and security systems for businesses, relevant histories, and files for emergency contacts.
  • Responds to radio traffic and requests and disseminates suspect information from roll call boards, prior calls, and bulletins; responds to in-house, radio paging, and after-hours phone lines.
  • Provides information to field personnel responding to alarms such as location of water supply, fire hazards, response routes, etc.
  • Responds to National Warning System alerts.
  • Performs basic equipment adjustments and maintenance; may perform associated office support duties.
  • As assigned, provides training or work instruction to newly hired Public Safety Dispatchers.
  • Coordinates with and serves as back up to other local law enforcement agencies.
  • Operates teletype terminals and other data communications equipment to send, receive and record information.
  • Performs a variety of clerical work including computation of statistics and data entry.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience:
  • Emergency Dispatcher I:
    One (1) year of general clerical experience, preferably with considerable public contact. (Substitution:
    Successful completion of thirty (30) semester units from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.)
  • Emergency Dispatcher II
    :
    One (1) year of experience performing duties at a level equivalent to the classification of Emergency Dispatcher I with Kings County.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS Licenses:
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
