Overview

One immediate part-time vacancy in the Health Department's California Children's Services Program (CCS). Future vacancies for this position may be filled from the eligible list to be established. The typical life of this eligible list is six months. This is a continuous recruitment which means we will accept applications on a continuous basis. A continuous recruitment may be closed at any time.

CLASS

CHARACTERISTICS

This journey-level classification is responsible for independently performing professional occupational therapy assessment, evaluation, and services for children with physical or neurological disabilities within the assigned unit of the Kings County Public Health Department. Positions at this level exercise judgement and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

  • Plans, organizes and administers occupational therapy for children with neurological or physical disabilities.
  • Assists the physician with patient assessment by interviewing and evaluating the patient’s physical condition; administers appropriate tests, including muscle, sensory, reflex, developmental, motor, and functional abilities.
  • Reviews clinical records, medical prescriptions and/or physician referrals to develop individual treatment programs based on goals and objectives; observes, evaluates and records patient’s treatment, reactions and progress in a clinical record; modifies treatment plan in response to significant changes in patient’s condition.
  • Administers active, passive and resistive therapeutic exercises; schedules and administers thermotherapy, electrotherapy, mechanotherapy, and hydrotherapy, as appropriate.
  • Works with families, physicians, school personnel, community organizations, and vendors; instructs patients and caregivers regarding exercises and other activities which are to be continued in the home; instructs patients and caregivers in the use and care of self-help equipment.
  • Attends clinics, trainings/conferences and meetings as directed and authorized.
  • May provide Targeted Case Management services and engage in outreach and other activities to enhance services to Medi-Cal beneficiaries; attends Individualized Education Program meetings as requested; monitors and assists in preparation of the Interagency Agreement between the local education area and the CCS Program.
  • May act as a liaison between the State CCS Program, the local program, and local education agencies.
  • Maintains records and prepares written reports as required; completes quality improvement audits and provides feedback; maintains program clerical administration, equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Observes and complies with all County and mandated safety rules, regulations and protocols.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in occupational therapy or closely related field.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in providing occupational therapy as a registered Occupational Therapist. (Experience working with children is highly desirable.)

Licenses and Certifications

Licenses:

  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of valid Occupational Therapist license issued by the American Occupational Therapy Association to be maintained throughout employment.

Certifications:

  • Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate for adult, child, and infant to be maintained throughout employment.
