The Kings County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking qualified individuals for the positions of: DETENTIONS SERGEANT - DEPARTMENT ONLY $79,768.00 - $97,344.00 Annually

The Kings County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Detentions Sergeant to lead custody, control, booking, and release operations while ensuring safety, accountability, and professional standards.   • Participates, plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of staff responsible for monitoring and overseeing incarcerated person conduct for an assigned shift in the County’s detentions facilities; trains and mentors subordinates and support staff in work procedures; evaluates employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively recommends initial disciplinary action.
  • Monitors activities of the work unit; implements procedures, methods, and processes to ensure compliance and achieve division objectives; makes recommendations to management to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Supervises staff responsible for monitoring, and overseeing incarcerated person conduct in detentions facilities according to established policies, regulations and procedures while preventing escapes, injuries, or violence; ensures appropriate interpretation and enforcement of correctional rules and regulations by subordinate staff.
  • Assists in the development and revision of facility procedures; maintains discipline and ensures that department rules and policies are followed; interprets departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures for subordinate staff.
  • Prepares work schedules and assigns work; supervises shift operations by maintaining attendance rosters and sufficient staffing levels.
  • Oversees the processing, custody and control of incarcerated persons and the issuance of clothing and supplies to incarcerated persons; supervises the booking, transfer and release of incarcerated persons, and screening and classification of incarcerated persons.
  • Supervises the maintenance of reports, records, databases, and files; ensures the proper documentation of operations and activities; maintains records and prepares periodic and special oral and written reports.
  • Reviews the reports of subordinates; monitors the work environment for conformity to law and departmental procedures; investigates and responds to incarcerated person complaints.
  • Responds to and supervises cell extractions, and other high-risk incidents and issues to ensure adequate resources are available, conformance with departmental policies and procedures, minimize risk and liability, and to ensure safety of personnel and incarcerated persons.
  • Directs the inspection of incarcerated persons and quarters for contraband, weapons, narcotics, and sanitary conditions; supervises the collection of evidence from suspected crimes committed in the County facilities.
  • Coordinates and supervises emergency response incidents and takes appropriate courses of action; may testify in court.
