Overview
Job Title: Surgical Technician
Location: Hannibal, MO
Hours: PRN - 3 days per month (typically Monday-Wednesday one week per month). During your first month, you will likely work at least one extra day for training, date TBD. The office is open Monday-Wednesday 6:30am-7:00pm. Shifts may start at 6:30am and end earlier or later depending on the surgery schedule. NO late nights, weekends or on-call shifts.

Responsibilities- Assists in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses and Surgical Assistants. Assists the Nurses and Surgeons in delivering high quality patient care in accordance with established standards and policies.
- Performs duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of certification.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations.
- Scrubs all types of cases performed at the company and anticipates the needs of the Surgeon, with equipment, medical gases and supplies readily available.
- Maintains the operating room setup, opens sterile packs according to sterile technique, and prepares instruments as needed.
- Gathers supplies and equipment, operates OR equipment (sterilizer, lights, suction, etc.), and assists with patient transfer to PACU if needed.
- Maintains records on medications used intra-operatively, specimens retrieved, implants, and other materials on the field.
- Passes instruments and other sterile supplies to surgical staff; aids with retractors, sutures, sponges, needles, or blades as applicable.
- Prepares, cares for and disposes of specimens for laboratory analysis; assists with case preparation per Surgeon’s preference card.
- Gathers supplies and anticipates needs for each case; participates in orientation of new staff and development of a healthy work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and implement patient care within scope of practice.
- Ability to handle stress related to prioritizing multiple tasks.
- Manual dexterity to handle instruments; able to work in an OR environment.
- Emotionally conscientious, orderly, and stable; able to adhere to work schedule and be organized.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills (verbal and written).
- High School diploma or GED required
- Two (2) years of hospital main operating room experience preferred
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) certification preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Knowledge of Amkai Charts Database software and Microsoft Word; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Frequent walking (75%), standing (50%), and sitting (50%); regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
- Lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 lbs. Fine motor skills and full use of hands required.
- Visual and auditory acuity required; occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.
