Starting Salary: $76,922 = $71,422.26 annual base salary plus $5,500 Paramedic Pay & additional educational pay based on fire service-related certifications and/or degrees.

• Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
• Age: Must be 21 years of age and under 35 by the date the preliminary eligibility list is created. Refer to IL General Assembly statute 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6 for exceptions.
• Paramedic Eligibility:
  • Must hold a standard Paramedic license by the date of a conditional job offer and have the ability to transfer to an Illinois Paramedic license. (No Basic Operations Firefighter Certification required).
  • OR enrolled in an approved Paramedic Program and possess a valid Basic Operations Firefighter Certification issued by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
• Proof of Eligibility: Submit copies of any of the above qualifications with your application. Proof may be requested prior to a conditional job offer.
• CPAT Card: Valid CPAT card with ladder climb required on the date of a conditional job offer. The CPAT test must not be more than 1 year old.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license in good standing required. Submit a copy with your application.

• Conditional offer and post‑offer tests including background, polygraph, psychological, NFPA firefighter fitness for duty medical exam, drug screening, and in‑person interview

Stretches and operates hose lines, positions and climbs ladders, searches structures, provides coordinated ventilation, opens locked and blocked doorways, uses manual and power tools, conducts fire extension overhaul, and protects property via salvage techniques. Rescues victims from occupancies filled with heat, smoke, and toxic gases. Performs extrications with varied tools. Renders emergency medical assistance as a licensed paramedic based on departmental protocols.

Demonstrates effective communication, teamwork, and compliance with departmental rules and safety procedures. Maintains vehicles, apparatus, and equipment, conducts hazardous material identification and mitigation, and participates in continuing education for EMT or Paramedic certifications. Prepares clear, accurate reports, assists authorities when called upon, and presents on fire safety and prevention. Performs additional duties reasonably within the scope of the enumerated responsibilities.
