Assistant Stylist

Assistant Stylist is responsible for engaging with guests, consulting on hair care needs, and recommending products and services. The position is temporary, mentored by an Elite or Master Stylist for the first 3 months, focusing on performance, people, and process. From months 4‑6, Assistants begin servicing guests independently.

• Deliver exceptional guest service and contribute to meeting or exceeding store sales and service goals.
• Support mentor stylist in sales and productivity by add‑on recommendations, shampoo and treatment process, blowouts, color applications, foils, sanitation, pre‑booking, and retail recommendations.
• After month three, perform hair services including hair design, cuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable.
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales.
• Support in‑store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services.
• Maintain regular attendance.

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and retail/service recommendations.
• Serve all guests promptly under mentorship of another stylist.
• Partner with skin therapists and retail team for a holistic guest experience.
• Establish professional relationships with brand partners.
• Share benefits of guest loyalty program, credit and Ulta app.

• Adhere to Ulta policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures and state board guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols.
• Use booking and clientele systems for future services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to Experience Manager.
• Maintain store operational standards.
• Attend mandatory trainings.
• Adhere to dress code.
• Follow loss prevention best practices.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

• Cosmetology license.

• Basic understanding of salon techniques for haircutting, color, styling, treatments, extensions, makeup, ear piercing (where applicable) and an aptitude for developing skills.
• Basic understanding of equipment and chemicals for technical work.
• Ability to recommend, demonstrate, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
• Developed communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships, and build clientele.

• Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Frequent mobility, bending, reaching, twisting, lifting up to 10 lbs, standing for long periods, coordination, frequent use of computer and telephonic devices.

The pay range for this position is $15.92 – $19.00 /hour. Exact pay will be based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by law and tips paid by service guests. Full‑time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
