Position Purpose

The Senior Business Development and Licensing Manager reports to the Director and collaborates with the Technology Transfer team and Dartmouth colleagues. The role manages intellectual property and commercializes research assets from Dartmouth College, with a focus on life sciences and digital health. Responsibilities include identifying, evaluating, marketing, and licensing Dartmouth inventions, developing relationships with researchers and industry, supporting start‑up companies, and promoting entrepreneurship.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Masters degree plus 6 or more years of experience in life sciences or biomedical sciences (or equivalent).
  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences/biomedical sciences + ≥7 years of relevant experience in academic რაღაც stipulations;
    Business Development or IP commercialization.
  • Broad technical understanding of diverse scientific areas relating to biomedical research and commercialization and digital healthcare or healthcare informatics.
  • Knowledge of patent law and federal regulations pertaining to intellectual property and academic technology transfer.
  • Experience structuring, drafting, and negotiating term sheets, options, licenses, and other complex agreements.
  • Strong interpersonal, storytelling, and presentation skills.
  • Proven entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to underrepresented constituencies.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic database and electronic communications software.

  • Experience working with start‑up companies and/or venture capital.
  • Extensive network within relevant industries.
Key Accountabilities Intellectual Property Evaluation and Protection (30%)
  • Build collaborative relationships with faculty and investigators to encourage invention disclosures.
  • Identify, define(timestamp writes) and protect intellectual property, including analyzing patentability and coordinating applications and prosecution with outside counsel.
  • Conduct market research and evaluate the commercial potential of IP assets.
  • Partner with inventors to design strategies for IP development and commercialization.
Business Development, Industry Engagement, and Commercialization (30%)
  • Work with researchers to design strategies for commercializing licensable IP through industry partnerships and start‑up companies.
  • Identify and nurture relationships with industry sponsors, investors, and potential licensees.
  • Support new ventures and start‑up activity; collaborate with Dartmouth and external entities to support entrepreneurship.
  • Work strategically with inventors, administrators, attorneys, industry representatives, investors, and community partners to identify market trends and revenue opportunities.
Licensing, Agreements, and Compliance (30%)
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate term sheets, option agreements, licenses, and Length rights in industry‑sponsored research and other IP‑related agreements.
  • Manage licensed portfolios, monitor active agreements, and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Provide guidance on conflicts of interest, export control, and confidentiality issues.
  • Structure, draft, and oversee joint IP projects and collaborations with other institutions and partners.
Education and Office Operations (10%)
  • Develop and deliver educational workshops and informational sessions on IP and commercialization.
  • Implement policies and strategies for protecting Dartmouth IP and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain expertise in technology transfer.
  • Contribute to the development of office infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
