Description

The Department of French and Italian Studies at Dartmouth College invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Italian for the 2026–27 academic year (one-year appointment with possibility of renewal).

The Lecturer will teach six Italian language courses across Dartmouth's three ten-week trimesters (fall, winter, spring) and contribute to the life of the Italian program and department by supporting co-curricular initiatives such as the Italian Table, cultural programming, and the Italian Living Learning Community. We seek an experienced instructor who thrives in a collaborative team and is eager to contribute to curriculum development, program building (e.g., co-curricular activities, student engagement, study-abroad connections), and to implement innovative, student-centered, and interactive teaching approaches informed by current research in the field.

Dartmouth is committed to academic excellence and encourages the open exchange of ideas within a culture of mutual respect. Dartmouth welcomes people with different backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives and believes that diversity in all its forms enhances academic excellence. Applicants should address in their cover letter how their research, teaching, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to serve Dartmouth's commitment to academic excellence in an environment that is welcoming to all.

We expect to make one appointment beginning September 1, 2026. This is a benefits-eligible position with a competitive salary. Dartmouth can provide J-1 visa sponsorship for eligible candidates.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Italian Studies, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, or a closely related field (or ABD with degree received before the start of the appointment).
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Italian (ACTFL “Superior” or equivalent).
  • Proven record of effective college-level language teaching at multiple levels.
  • Evidence of curricular innovation.
  • Facility with instructional technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and contribute to program growth.
