Position Purpose

In support of Dartmouth College’s Alumni Relations mission, the Assistant Director of Alumni Experiences is a critical operational partner in delivering high‑impact programming and events that connect Dartmouth alumni to the College and each other. This position works closely with Alumni Relations team leadership, Advancement colleagues, and campus partners to develop and execute volunteer and alumni engagement strategies and signature programs that support institutional priorities and lifelong alumni engagement.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years demonstrated experience in event or program management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage details of multiple events concurrently.
  • Demonstrated creative planning, organizational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience budgeting and vendor relations.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities, adept at managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to be perceptive and responsive to direction set forth from leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, groups, and individuals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with databases.
  • Willingness to travel, work nights and weekends for event and project travel and oversight.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
Responsibilities Alumni Engagement and Program Management (75%)
  • Develop and execute engagement strategies through events, volunteer initiatives, and targeted programming including reunions, homecoming, alumni council, conferences, trainings, and single‑event programs; maintain high levels of attention to detail, accuracy, sensitivity, and continuous focus on the purpose of those activities.
  • Recruit, train, and support alumni volunteers; build inclusive and diverse volunteer communities to advance alumni engagement and participation.
  • Serve as a strategic liaison between alumni and the College, fostering communication, sharing best practices, and championing new opportunities for connection
    .
  • Lead end‑to‑end event planning including logistics
    , communications, vendor coordination, and post‑event and program evaluation.
  • Support cross‑functional collaboration with Advancement colleagues and campus partners to strengthen alumni experiences and operational excellence.
  • Travel as needed for events, site visits, and alumni outreach.
  • Collaborate closely with Alumni Relations team leadership and across Advancement and Dartmouth to develop and execute new engagement opportunities and organizations to meet the changing needs and expectations of alumni; consider approaches to promote inclusivity and enhance engagement of all constituents.
  • Participate in daily events and program operations while working autonomously and as part of multiple teams.
  • Support and participate in the development of effective working relationships, systems, and processes in support of the department and individual activities and responsibilities; communicate with a range of offices on campus to meet goals and objectives through events and programming.
  • Initiate and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders from all areas to promote the College and enhance programming goals designed to strengthen the sense of connection to the College among Dartmouth alumni and family.
  • Work closely with Alumni Operations to plan and budget for the execution of events, programs, and services; participate in and look for ways to improve established best practices for event planning and execution.
  • Conduct research to assess best practices of peer institutions and other non‑profits to enhance the opportunities for alumni engagement at Dartmouth College.
