Dartmouth’s Department of Athletics and Recreation (DCARD) is seeking a dynamic communications strategist to be the chief voice for our Director of Athletics and Recreation and the Department. Our ideal candidate is a strategic thinker & composed communicator who thrives under pressure. They will be proactive, creative, and can manage multiple projects smoothly while maintaining the highest professionalism and confidentiality. A skilled storyteller passionate about sports, higher education, and strategic communication.
They excel with written and verbal communication, and are comfortable navigating complex, high-stakes settings. They demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, thrive on multitasking, and place a premium on integrity and confidentiality. Skilled in social media management, they know how to amplify a brand’s voice while maintaining clear, consistent messaging aligned to organizational goals. Above all, they are a trusted partner to senior leadership, supporting reputation management and crisis communications effectively and proactively.
the Role
- Develop and implement bold communications strategies that amplify Dartmouth Athletics’ priorities.
- Manage all inbound communications for the Director of Athletics and Recreation.
- Craft innovative content across media and social platforms to engage internal and external audiences.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on crisis, issues management, and reputation-building efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field
- 7+ years in communications or PR—experience at a university/college is a plus!
- Exceptional writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Proven ability to develop & execute strategic messaging with measurable results
- Experience managing social media campaigns and growing a brand’s digital presence preferred
- High discretion and sound professional judgment
