position purpose

the access control technician ii will be proficient in all aspects of the installation, maintenance and repair of mechanical locking systems and electronic access control systems. Performs a variety of tasks involved with installing, analyzing and repairing all types of access control and security systems, including all computers, camera, keys, electronic locks, security system components, and centralized clock systems. Working in a service-oriented environment, access control tech ii will successfully communicate with members of the dartmouth community while carrying out their tasks.

required qualifications - skills, knowledge and abilities

  • technical school graduate, relevant associate’s degree, or have equivalent education and experience.
  • five years of relevant experience, two of which must have been served as an apprentice or equivalent position.
  • must have a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the dartmouth college driver safety and motor vehicle policy.
  • skilled in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of mechanical locking systems.
  • skilled in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electronic lock systems and access control systems.
  • proficient in the knowledge of applicable codes, specifically nfpa 101, life safety code; nfpa 80, standard for fire doors; international building code ibc ; american disabilities act ( ada ).
  • working knowledge of college construction guidelines.
  • must have skill in the use of hand and power tools, analog/digital test equipment, man lifts, testing devices and ladders.
  • ability to follow complex written and oral assignments and communicate effectively.
  • be able to work independently under minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment and have excellent problem-solving skills.
  • ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • computer skills on laptop, tablet and smartphone, and with microsoft office software.
  • willingness to work overtime as required.
  • strong attention to detail.
  • able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
